Chapter 7. Creating Simple Scripts > Adding Comments to a Script

Adding Comments to a Script

One of FileMaker's serious scripting weaknesses is that it doesn't provide an automatic way to see the settings it stores with the script. If you create a script and then forget its criteria, or have to troubleshoot someone else's scripting, you have to run the script first to restore the settings. This is particularly irritating if the script includes printing a very long report or series of records. Either you temporarily clear the print step (and then have to remember to put it back!) or you waste a stack of paper.

Even worse, if all of the fields that were used for the search don't appear on the current layout, you won't see an accurate picture of the settings, nor will you have any clue that this is the case.
