Chapter 6. Creating Relationships > Sorting Data in Portals

Sorting Data in Portals

There is no way to specify a sort method in a portal once you're in a layout. If you want to view the portal data sorted by one of its fields, you need to specify this option in the relationship itself.

To sort data in portals:

1.
Choose File > Define Relationships.

2.
When the Define Relationships dialog box appears, select the relationship your portal uses and click Edit.

3.
When the Edit Relationship dialog box appears, click “Sort related records” (Figure 6.40).

Figure 6.40. Click “Sort related records” to choose a field to sort the portal records.

4.
In the Specify Sort dialog box, double-click the field(s) to sort (Figure 6.41). You can specify Ascending, Descending or Custom sort for each field. Click OK.

Portals based on this relationship will now display the related records sorted by the criteria and the order you specified.
