Part: V Appendices > Installing FileMaker on Windows

Installing FileMaker on Windows

FileMaker runs on a variety of Windows operating systems:Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3), Windows 2000, and Windows XP. (Officially, FileMaker is “Windows XP ready” but at press time had not yet been certified to include the XP logo in FileMaker's packaging. The upshot: FileMaker will work fine on Windows XP machines.) To use the Web Companion and ODBC features, however, you need to be using Windows 98 or later.

What you'll need before starting:

  • A PC with an Intel-compatible chip equivalent to at least the 486/33 with at least 32 MB of RAM (memory).

  • A CD-ROM drive for using FileMaker's installation CD.

  • A hard drive with at least 20 MB of free space for the Typical installation.

  • The installation code for FileMaker. Look for the peel-off label on the sleeve containing the FileMaker CD.
