Updating Records

Access makes it easy to manage databases of all sizes, but updating information by hand is time-consuming at best in small databases, and impossible in any data collection of substantial size. Updating your records without using a query becomes even trickier if you don't want to replace every instance of a value. If, for instance, you only wanted to change certain instances of "Smith" in a LastName field because one out of the fifteen Smiths in your table had changed their name, you would need to find each record manually and decide whether to make the replacement or not.

Figure 10.1. Type the replacement value for your query in the Update To row.
