Chapter 12. Importing and Exporting Data > Copying a Table Within a Database

Copying a Table Within a Database

Importing (or linking to) a table from another database or simply copying a few records from one table to another are handy features to have. Another useful ability involves creating a copy of an existing table in the same database. Copying a table within a database offers more flexibility than using the Save As menu option. Save As creates a new copy of your table, both its data and structure, but it doesn't let you copy just the table's structure or append the records in the current table to another table.

When you copy a table, you might not want to transfer the data from the original table to the copy; sometimes just the structure of the table will suffice. For instance, if your database contains a Customers table (with customer contact information for your active customers), you can copy the table to create a separate Leads table that contains contact information for potential customers for another product or service.
