Filtering by Selection

Filtering by selection allows you to select the values that you want to appear in the filtered version of your table. For example, if you want to see all of the books by authors with a particular first name, you should filter your table by selection. Selecting the name Peter from your table and filtering by selection returns books by authors with the first name of Peter.

To filter by selection:

1.
In Datasheet view, open the table that you want to filter.

2.
Click the cell containing the value you want to use as your filter criteria (Figure 7.19).

Figure 7.19. Click the cell with the value you want to use as your filter criteria.

This step is the "selection" part of the Filter by Selection operation. In this example, we want to see every book by authors with the first name of Peter, so we click a cell in the FirstName field containing the value Peter.

3.
Click the Filter by Selection toolbar button. (Figure 7.20).

Figure 7.20. Click the Filter by Selection tool bar button to display only those records with the value you want to search for.

The filtered version of your table appears displaying books by authors with the first name of Peter (Figure 7.21).
