Sorting Table Records

When you enter records into a table, Access usually stores them in the order you entered them. If you created the table using a wizard, or if you created the table from scratch and included an AutoNumber field to keep track of your entries, the implied sort order (sorted by the order entered) is embodied in an AutoNumber field.

The default chronological sort order may not be the best choice if you would rather view your records in another order, such as alphabetically or by the date of a client's last purchase. Access makes it easy to change the sort order of records you enter into your tables.
