Chapter 9. Additional Table Capabilities > Copying, Moving, and Renaming Fields

Copying, Moving, and Renaming Fields

Once you've added all of the fields you'll need in your table, you can change their order, copy and paste them into other tables, or give them new names to better reflect their contents or to resolve a naming conflict with other fields in the table.

Changing your fields'top-to-bottom order in the table design grid changes the left-to-right field order in datasheets based on the table. Access takes the first (top) field and places it in the first (left-most) column of the datasheet, puts the second field in the next column to the right, and so on. The field order in the table design grid also changes the arrangement of fields in wizard-generated forms based on the table; the exact arrangement depends on the type of form you create.
