This entry provides much of the information previously listed. Read the Labels A dictionary's usage labels explain how, where, and when a word has been used in speech and writing. As you learned in Chapter 1, there are different levels of usage, including formal and infor- mal, standard and nonstandard. You should always use the words that suit your audience and purpose. Look at the different usage labels you'll find in the dictionary.
