Chapter 29. Battling Electronic Viruses

Whenever you send or receive e-mail, you risk catching and spreading a computer virus. Some viruses are merely irritating, not destructive. Other viruses, sent with malicious intent, are more harmful. A destructive virus can erase files from your disk, impede system processing, and transfer itself from one computer to another.

E-mail attachments are the most common form of virus transportation. If you open an infected word-processing document, spreadsheet, or other attachment, there is a good chance of catching the bug.
