Doing the Research

Don't assume everyone is a buyer of your product or service. You need to do the proper research to determine who is your target customer. So, where do you begin your research on your market? Here are a few places to start.

First, check out the industry publications for your marketplace. Industry magazines, trade journals, and websites are a good source for descriptions of the current state of your industry segment and for data that supports the growth potential of your chosen market. Second, use the Internet. The Web is a prime source for business analyses, financial statistics, demographics, trade associations, and just about everything you need for a complete business plan.
