Detailing the Startup Phase—The Zero Months

Even before you open your doors for business, you perform tasks that should be described in your plan. Even if you're writing an internal plan for an existing company, you still have startup tasks to perform.

Many of these tasks incur expenses and these expenses are reflected in the Financial Plan section of your plan under columns in your pro forma (your estimate of revenue, expenses, and profits) called zero month(s). They're called zero month(s) because you are not generating any revenue during the first months of operation, although your company is in existence, spending money or using resources.
