Use visual cues to help users find what they need

You can help users find information quickly by using visual elements systematically and consistently.

Online interfaces often use icons to represent program and data objects. Well-designed icons can be easier to find than the names that they represent, and they can provide a lot of information about the characteristics of the objects that they represent and their relationships to other objects. You can also use iconic images on buttons to represent program tools or the actions of those tools.
