Choose graphics that complement the text

Use graphics that help to complete and clarify the information. Relate illustrations to what the user wants to know.

Some users are word oriented; others are picture oriented. Showing as well as telling is an important way to ensure that both types of users get the point. You can show what is unwieldy to tell, highlight what is especially important, and provide clear symbols that users can remember. Telling as well as showing ensures that the information is accessible to visually impaired users, too.
