What is quality technical information?

Quality has been a major concern of businesses for many years, particularly in terms of the characteristics of the output. Products compete not only on how much they cost and whether they're available when and where needed, but also on the quality of what they offer. This competition crosses national boundaries when markets span the globe. For example, in the 1970s car manufacturers in the United States needed to reconsider the level of quality in their cars when car manufacturers from Japan began to sell what people perceived as higher-quality cars, cars that offered features such as better fuel economy and more reliability.

Quality characteristics for technical information must also reflect what users expect and want from the information.
