Use patterns of information to ensure proper coverage

You can eliminate extraneous information and identify redundancies by analyzing user tasks and by using and testing the information. Another way to determine whether you have covered all of the relevant topics and details is to develop a pattern for structuring your information.

A pattern is an organizational device that you can use to make information consistent. Therefore, this guideline is similar to the organization guideline “Organize information consistently” on page 232 and the clarity guideline “Present similar information in a similar way” on page 136.
