Chapter 27. Sales

Sales and marketing are important activities of most businesses. Companies must sell the products they make or the services they provide to earn the money that pays the employees and keeps the firm in business.

The sales department usually has salespeople who meet directly with customers or future customers to tell them about the firm's products and ser vices and related matters such as price or delivery schedule. Although “self-service” types of businesses, such as department and discount stores, have become increasingly popular, most of us have still had many experiences with salespeople. Some businesses, such as real estate and insurance, rely heavily on personal sales.
