Perquisite, Prerequisite

Examining the root and prefix carefully will tell you which of these terms means “required before.” The other term means “a payment or benefit that is made in addition to regular wages.” Read the following examples and then answer the preview questions.

  • An elementary class is often prerequisite to an intermediate class.

  • Have you completed the prerequisites for this course?

  • One of the perquisites of that job is a car allowance.

  • As a perquisite of his job, Vic is allowed use of the company jet.
