Anecdote, Antidote

One of these words means a short, entertaining story. The other is something that counteracts the effects of poison; a prefix meaning “against” should help tell you this one. Read the following examples and then answer the preview questions.

  • My grandfather tells us amusing anecdotes about his boyhood.

  • Glenda told us an anecdote about her last shopping spree.

  • What is the antidote for the poison cyanide?

  • An antidote for snakebite poison is in the first-aid kit.
