Prefixes Related to Amount or Extent

Some prefixes indicate an amount or a general idea of “how many.” Read the following examples and see if you know the meanings of the italicized prefixes.

  • The taxpayers paid for the multimillion-dollar polytechnic college that would prepare students in many arts.

  • The decision to build a Pan-American highway from Canada to South America was multilateral, or many sided. The entire Western Hemisphere stands to benefit from this road.

  • She is not vegetarian, but omnivorous.

  • The president is semiretired and has time to watch the semifinals of the tennis tournament.
