Flipcharts

Flipcharts are inexpensive, easy to obtain, and can be reused. Most flipchart easels are are portable, and flipchart pages can be rolled up and easily transported. Flipcharts are a spontaneous, flexible, “living” medium, which you can adapt as you go along. While using flipcharts, you can maintain at least partial audience eye contact. Also, you can save the record of a group's entire work, without having to erase as space becomes filled up.

Flipcharts do not accommodate large amounts of material well, however, and complex pre-printed or pre-drawn charts require a great deal of preparation time. If you do use prepared flipcharts, they present a rigid sequence of materials. If you have a lot of visual information to transmit, flipchart pads might be inconvenient—they contain 50 to 75 pages and may have to be replaced often. If you have a large audience, visibility can be a problem.
