Presentation Room

Every room you give a presentation in is different in some way and presents unique challenges. That’s why you must express your wants and needs, if you have a say in where you will give your presentation. When you are offered different options about where and how your presentation will take place, never say (or think, for that matter), “Don’t worry about me, any place is fine.” If you have some control over the logistics of the room, take advantage of this opportunity to create an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and will best meet your audience’s needs. You may find many of those details already taken care of for you, but there are still several things you can do to help ensure that your presentation will be a rousing success, among them room setup and the environment.

Room Setup

There is no single way to set up a room for a presentation. Because some setups work better for certain kinds of presentations, don’t be shy about expressing your desire in the way the room will be set up. Table 5-1 lists the most common room setups, as well as when each works and doesn’t work. Each setup is then described in more detail in the sections that follow.
