Chapter 2. Be Prepared to Succeed

Chapter 2. Be Prepared to Succeed

What’s Inside This Chapter

Here, you’ll see how to:

  • Build on the elements of successful presentations

  • Become a winning presenter using six easy steps

  • Develop the purpose of your presentation

  • Deal with your audience

  • Be an expert presenter without being an expert

  • Choose the right audiovisuals to support your presentation

  • Close on a high note

  • Practice to make a perfect presentation

Some presenters overprepare for their presentations; they write out every word on notecards. But, if you overscript your presentation, a single question might throw you off. Other presenters take the opposite approach to their presentations and think that they can wing it without notes because they “know” the subject. If you use no notes, though, a momentary lapse in concentration could throw your presentation into chaos because you have nothing to help you get back on track.
