Part: 1 Clearing Your Throat - Pg. 1

1 Part 1. Clearing Your Throat It's like this: You've listened to scores of public speakers and said to yourself, "Hey, I can do this." You can, but the thing is, you never actually have. That's where your collar gets tight and your hands begin to shake. Or, it's like this: You have a chance to make a speech that could make a significant difference to your career, reputation, and public profile. You don't really have to make the speech, but it would be a shame to pass up the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Or, even this: One bright Monday morning, your boss says, "By the way, Bob, I've slated you to deliver the presentation at the sales conference next week in Glassy Point, Idaho. Remember, this is our key market, so we're really counting on you." The last time you gave a speech was in 10th grade English, in 19... oh, we're not going to get into that. So what's your problem? Weren't you supposed to learn all about public speaking in high school and college? Sure you were, but you had your bad days and your good days. So did your teachers. The upshot is that you missed it. That's what this first part is all about.
