Great Feedback Skills > Getting Started: Know Yourself

Getting Started: Know Yourself

The feedback formula presented in this Infoline has three parts: giving, receiving, and strengthening your skills. However, before getting started, you should determine your own starting point. Complete the exercise presented in the sidebar Feedback Effectiveness Self-Assessment to determine how effective your current feedback skills are. The questions are designed to give you a personal reference point. The remainder of this Infoline will provide more detail on the questions used in the exercise and how they relate to the feedback formula.

Self-knowledge also is recognizing whether or not you tend to avoid giving feedback. If you've ever neglected to give feedback to someone when you should have, complete the following exercise. If you are one of the few who has always been comfortable giving feedback, complete the exercise imagining the perspective of someone you know who is not so at ease.
