Chapter 6. Choosing Your Story’s Hero

The hero is the story’s central character. Through the hero, you connect with your audience. The story may also have a “villain” and a supporting character or two, and these are discussed in Part III. Many of the short stories you will use in the workplace, however, will feature just one central character.

You have four choices for the hero: (1) you, (2) another person, (3) an animal, or (4) an inanimate object. Let’s look at the pros and cons of each choice.
