Say It Conversationally

Review the principles below for writing the way you talk. Each of the numbered statements that follows violates one of these standards. Put a letter by each statement to indicate which principle the statement violates. Then rewrite the example statement in a more conversational way.

  1. Avoid writing anything you never say.

  2. Use contractions as you would in everyday speech.

  3. Begin sentences with nouns and pronouns.

  4. Keep related items parallel.

  5. Use bullet points to break up long narratives.
