The Downside:

Directors aren’t very humble. They have big egos and they play to win. They seldom praise or give credit to others. Sometimes they are downright critical and insensitive. They expect a lot, and they are critical and demanding when they don’t get results. Generally they are not good listeners.

Tips for Better Listening:

If you have a Directive style, you are a good listener who doesn’t listen. Patience. Patience. Patience. This commodity is in short supply in Director Land, so make it a top priority. Develop enough humility to admit that lots of folks have good ideas, but that a forceful style intimidates them. You use intimidation because you don’t want to be used by those who have your ear.
