Chapter 22. Listening Louder

Listening is both a behavior and a skill. Behavior is evidence of our ability to apply a skill. To improve our listening skills we need to consciously practice the 10 tips in this section. A good driver does more than simply avoid accidents, and a good listener does more than simply pay attention.

Because business is a place where you need to listen most of the time, you will have plenty of opportunity to practice. Mentally condition yourself to make every encounter, from your first phone call to the last meeting of your business day, an opportunity to practice improved listening. Be practical and select the tips that will help you the most.
