Dear Marvin: It is with great sadness that I must decline your gracious invitation to the Grand Opening of your new restaurant in New York City on March 12. There are several reasons why I will not be able to celebrate this wonderful occasion with you.

I know your new restaurant will be, as usual, a great success. Stay in touch!
