Pausing

Pausing during a presentation can be an effective device to allow your important points to sink in. Don’t be afraid to allow periods of silence during your presentation. The audience needs time to digest what you are saying. Use this time to take a breath and relax a moment.

Use a pause to fill those spaces that you might otherwise fill with sounds like: umm, ahh, and ah. A moment of silence will be a lot less distracting for your audience than those annoying “verbal tics.”
