Summary

One way to become what you want to be, whatever you choose, is to study the people who are that way. About 20 years ago, I became dissatisfied with my lifestyle. I was not very professional or successful (in my eyes, at least). My mother, who’s a very wise woman, said, “Kay, if you want to be successful, you have to hang around with successful people.” So I began to associate with and study people who were strong, who were successful. I wanted to know what made them that way.

You can do the same thing. If you know someone who is professional and tactfully assertive—someone who has the attributes, characteristics, skills, and good manners described in this book—study that person. When you see people you think are really top-notch, get to know those people. Watch what they do—how they act. Ask yourself, “What clothing do they have on, how do they walk, how do they talk, what is their voice like, what did they just say or do that intimidated or impressed me?” You can start your learning process just by imitating those you respect.
