Chapter 3. Meeting People > When You’re in an Inside Office

When You’re in an Inside Office

You may need to go out to the lobby to greet guests who have come to see you or your manager. You may skip this courtesy for visitors who come often, but it’s a good idea to go to the reception desk to meet all VIPs and first-time visitors.

Make a professional entrance into the reception area. Make sure your posture, facial expression, and body movements are confident and reveal only what will be helpful to you professionally. Don’t wear your feelings on your sleeve or allow the stress or disappointment of the day to follow you through the door. If you’re negative when you greet people, they will probably reciprocate.
