Sending Invitations

The most important rule in sending invitations is to understand your guest. Take into consideration the kind of relationship you have with this person and what he or she likes to do, and extend your invitation accordingly.

Inviting Your Manager

It’s not usually proper for a junior person to invite a manager to dinner, unless you have become social friends. If you’ve been entertained in your employer’s home when other people were also invited, don’t feel compelled to return the invitation. If you do want to entertain your manager and you’re even the least bit hesitant about doing so, it may be better not to entertain at your home. Many people are uncomfortable with their employer in a private setting, and dinner at home is no time to try to create rapport. It’s also hard to judge whether you’ve overdone or underdone your entertainment. Never invite your manager to your home strictly because you think it will help your career.
