Tip 26 Institute Office Quiet Time for Writing Projects

Writing business documents, like any high-concentration activity, is much easier if you can work uninterrupted. A one-minute interruption from a writing task might require as much as 20 minutes of recovery time before you can resume the flow.

Modern offices don’t often afford many blocks of uninterrupted creative time—unless a specific quiet time is mandated as office policy: that is, a time when internal phone calls, meetings, and visits are curtailed, except for emergencies. The quiet time doesn’t have to be very long—perhaps 9:30 to 10:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Especially if you use brainstorming and aerobic writing, an uninterrupted half hour can be very productive.
