The first and most basic step you must take before you can give constructive feedback is to let the other person know our expectations of him or her. If you have never shared your expectations, you have no basis on which to base your evaluation or criticism. A question every critic must ask is, “Did I set up realistic expectations on which to base my evaluation?”
