Chapter 8. Assertive Techniques to Deal with Critical Feedback

If we can be assertive while being given critical feedback, it will allow us to remain confident and cool. An assertive approach permits a win-win attitude in which you allow your critic to have an opinion while maintaining your own. Manuel J.Smith, author of When I Say No, I Feel Guilty, introduced three assertive techniques that have proven invaluable in helping assess and evaluate what action you can take when being criticized:

TECHNIQUE #2: Admitting the Truth (Negative Assertion)
TECHNIQUE #3: Asking for Feedback (Negative Inquiry)
