Some Cautions

When giving positive feedback, avoid assigning more work at the same time. When you attach a new assignment to the giving of positive feedback, it feels almost like punishment for good work. Do good work…get positive feedback…get assigned more work. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure how this might have the wrong effect!

Finally, do not overload the receiver with a litany of positive feedback. Do not save up all positive feedback for the annual performance appraisal. Give positive feedback as close to the event as possible, and give it whenever possible.
