Information Content Guidelines for Number Charts

NUMBER CHARTS—USE A MAXIMUM OF 25–35 NUMBERS PER VISUAL AID. One number can have many digits so use good judgment if you are not sure. The general rule of thumb is to put raw data into the handout material or on backup overheads, not on the screen (unless your boss tells you to do so!). Data charts should only contain bottom line information, conclusions and final results. Another alternative is to graph the data in a visually pleasing manner.
