Organizing Your Thoughts

It is always a good idea to start organizing the body of the speech and not worry about the introduction until later. Introductions are often generated by what goes into the body. Effective speakers have learned to build from the center of their speech outward. Following are some suggestions that might help you:

Step #1—Brainstorm Main Ideas

Using Post-It Notes [*] or a similar medium, brainstorm some possible main ideas for your presentation. Write one idea on each card. Let the ideas flow at this point, don’t edit, (that will come later). The strategy is to generate as many ideas as possible.
