Part IV: New Technology for Presentations

New Technology for Presentations

The advances in computer technology have lead to tremendous leaps in presentation technology. You can easily merge photos, sound and video into a presentation on your computer screen and project it directly from the computer onto any size monitor. It won’t be long before some presentations will be made using Virtual Reality technology! Here’s a brief overview of current technology for creating visual aids and presentations:

Hardware

Computers— Regardless of the type of system that is being used, current technology demands an increasing amount of available memory. If you are considering purchasing a system, it would probably be wise to get the largest amount of internal memory that is available with the system and make sure that extended memory can be expanded later. Some systems require special cards for video or color. Most of the software options discussed in this book come in versions for the various types of computers.

Printers— The price of a good color printer is now very reasonable and should be considered part of the basic system for developing either 35mm slide or overhead presentations. Most of the new color printers provide literally millions of possible color combinations, hundreds of fonts, and can print overhead transparencies directly on the acetate. The new printers have excellent resolution so that visual aids look great.
