Some Myths about Marketability

Some might have you believe that to be marketable you must be perfect. They claim you must match all specifications for a position, that no departure from an idealized profile will be tolerated, that you must conform in all respects to conventional definitions of “qualified.”

Similar beliefs are that you should be neither too young nor too old, neither overqualified nor underqualified, and have no deficits in formal education, no gaps in your employment history, and no irregularities in who you are, what you look like, and what you have done with your life.
