Chapter 2. Grammar > What Is A Sentence?

What Is A Sentence?

Since messages are made up of sentences, you have to be sure that you know what a sentence is. Not every group of words with a period after it is a sentence. It may be an incomplete thought, or it may be two or more sentences strung together.

A sentence is a complete statement. It stands on its own. It may make a statement, ask a question, or give a command, but it is grammatically complete. It gives the reader all the information necessary to communicate a single thought.
