Exercise for Practice

The following exercise helps you identify the subjects, verbs, and completers used in sentences with CORE CONTROL. In each sentence below, underline the subject(s) with one line, the verb or verb phrase with two lines and the completer with a broken line. Remember that some sentences do not have completers. Identify the verbs as active (A) or passive (P) or linking (L) by placing the correct letter on the line next to the number. When you complete the exercise, check the end of this section for the correct answers.

Examples

L The stockroom door is stuck.
A Harpo will announce the retirement plan.
P The memo was sent on Tuesday.
