Chapter 6. Putting it Together > Writing Business Memos

Writing Business Memos

You should now be prepared to write a business memo using the information you have learned. [*] Refer to the applicable sections of the book to help you practice CORE CONTROL in each exercise. Use seed nouns and active or linking verbs in eighty percent of your sentences. Circle the subject of each sentence to check your use of seed nouns.

[*] For several excellent references on formatting and writing memos, letters, and reports, refer to Better Business Writing by Sue Brock; Technical Writing in the Corporate World by Herman Estrin and Nobert Elliot; and Writing Fitness by Jack Swenson. Crisp Publications.

INSTRUCTIONS: Write a memo to your manager suggesting a plan of action for improving a task or procedure in your office. Include the benefits of your plan in order to persuade him or her to act.
