All writing exists within specific contexts. Whether you are working in private industry or in government, your organization has its own way of communicating information.

Central to success in your organization is your ability to serve the needs of your readers. From the non-specialist to the specialist, audiences vary enormously. Often there will be multiple readers for a single document, and it is not uncommon for sections of a report to be read by different readers, each with different expertise, interests, and responsibilities.
