Chapter 7. Correspondence

Communication within organizations is often spoken. We talk to our colleagues in meetings, we gather information by phone, we make technical presentations orally to clients.

This kind of communication, however, is short-lived. In time, the information we receive and provide must be recorded so that it can be used by others. Internally, the memo is used to tell colleagues and employers about our progress on assignments. Externally, letters are used to communicate with others who are not part of our immediate working environment.
