COMMUNICATION MYTH #6: It’s always best to rely on statistics to influence people.


Many people believe that the only way to convince people is with statistics or other numerical information. As you’ve seen already, and will see again, some situations and some audiences don’t call for statistics. Most that do call for numerical information will usually also require that you strengthen those dry, impersonal numbers with something “real” such as concrete examples, hypothetical scenarios, case studies, testimony of experts or witnesses, and so on.
