Chapter 6. Examples of Persuasion

Many times you will have to act as a persuader, speaking and/or writing to influence the judgments of others. For example, you may need to:

Cope with the members of another division at work who are promoting a proposal that competes with one you are trying to get approved; or

“Smooth the feathers” of employees who think your new billing procedures will give them less control over purchasing;

or

Convince your boss that bonuses for the department will save him or her money through increased productivity and lower turnover; or

Show a personnel manager why your application, even though it doesn‘t fit the “typical” mold, nevertheless qualifies you for the position you want.
