Author Response to Selecting Persuasive Strategies

CASE #1: This is a complex case. Your audience has aspects of three types of audiences: NEUTRAL, UNDECIDED, and UNFRIENDLY: Like NEUTRAL audiences, they may understand the importance of donating blood, but fail to see how it affects them personally. Like UNDECIDED audiences, they may appreciate the importance of donating blood, but be afraid of the procedure. They may be disturbed by the health risk posed by blood-transmitted diseases, even though donation procedures are protected against such risk. Like UNFRIENDLY audiences, they may simply not want to donate blood.

Strategies

The choice of strategies should reflect this complexity—no single approach is “correct”, but some seem best to take into account the likely sources of resistance.
